From Chicago to San Francisco to Los Angeles, Dj Dory has lived in some big time U.S. cities. All of which have had some kind of musical influence on her, and shaped the artist she is today. Dory found herself gracing the keys of a piano at an early age of only 4 years old, and has since never looked back. Her teenage years growing up in suburbs of Chicago exposed her ears to the driving sounds of house music, along with a punk and indie rock phase she also recalls. She told me of her first experiences with dance music. "I was exposed to dance music at a fairly early age. In the late 80s all of the big local jocks were playing early house on commercial radio. And like most teenagers around that time, I eventually made a trip to Medusa's, the notorious after-hours juice bar. It was the first real club experience I ever had, and my introduction to dance culture." |

That Was a Ride (a weekend with Phil K) |
Sunday, 27 July 2008 |
That's exactly what Justin said to me as we were driving away from the departure gates at DIA, and had just dropped off Phil and said our goodbyes. "Wow...that was a ride." and I couldn't think of a better way to sum up our weekend. A ride it was in so many ways, and a such a wonderful experience for the whole Keep The Vibe crew. For those of you who may not have been able to make the show, or may have been there, but don't know much about Phil K, I'll give you a small bit of info about him. Phil is 39, and has been djing since 1984, so there is no debate about experience or having been around when the electronic music scene took its first breathe. Phil as a dj, and a producer is well known all over the world and has numerous productions to his name, along with many productions done with other big names the world over. He is signed with Global Underground, Ministry of Sound, and is associated with labels and productions that span the globe. |
